Photo by @stephen_matera / Larch trees in autumn color the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the central Cascades, Washington. The larch is a deciduous conifer that grows in the mountains of the western United States and Canada. Its surprisingly soft needles turn golden yellow and fall off in autumn. I love these trees because they glow when backlit by the sun.
