Meet seven-year-old Polina from

A grenade killed her grandmother, her uncle and a neighbour. Polina and her parents received serious shrapnel wounds.

“She had a cardiac arrest,” recalls her mother, Svitlana. “She learned to walk again. She suffered deep wounds on both legs. But she remained alive – this is the most important.”

As families deal with the trauma and tragedy caused by conflict, UNICEF is calling on all sides to urgently step up efforts to protect children.
