Back to school for girls in Herat, Afghanistan.
Through conflict and COVID-19, UNICEF continues to support education for boys and girls across the country.
But the needs are vast. Over 4.2 million children remain locked out of learning. And according to our most recent data, nearly 50 per cent of girls in Afghanistan have never even entered primary school. This needs to change.
UNICEF continues to press for and closely monitor girls’ safety and access to education, as well as the ability of female teachers to return to work.
