US return to the UN Human Rights Council
According to other media Approximation News Agency, The UN General Assembly elected representatives of 18 countries as members of the UN Human Rights Council.

It is one of the elected countries of the United States that left the council in 2018, when “Donald Trump” was the President of the United States. Washington claimed that the council had acted biasedly against the Zionist regime.

The United States participated in the secret ballot with 168 votes in favor out of 193 members of the UN General Assembly.

US President Joe Biden, who has been in power since January, has claimed that human rights will be at the heart of his administration’s foreign policy. Nevertheless, he has continued some of Trump’s most inhumane policies, including against immigrants.

A recent Reuters report concluded that the Biden government has repeatedly ignored the human rights records of some countries by prioritizing security issues.

“The United States will have the opportunity to show how serious the Biden administration is about putting human rights at the heart of its domestic and foreign policies,” said Luier Charbono, director of the UN Human Rights Council. “With all these wrong steps so far, they should use their opportunity in this council to promote human rights among friends and foes.”

Candidates for the UN Human Rights Council are selected on the basis of geographical area to ensure the appropriate presence of representatives of geographical areas. The UN General Assembly also elected Kazakhstan, the Gambia, Benin, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Paraguay, Honduras, Luxembourg, Finland, Montenegro and Lithuania as members. Cameroon, Eritrea, Somalia, India and Argentina were the countries whose membership was extended.
