The sunrise begins to peak in the distance as the International Space Station (@ISS) orbits 263 miles (about 423 km) above the southeast coast of Brazil on the Atlantic Ocean as this photograph was taken.
Cruising at about 17,200 miles (27,700 km) per hour, the space station makes 16 orbits of Earth, traveling through 16 sunrises and sunsets like this one every day.
